Sangeeta Sandrasegar‘s ceramics features in the upcoming exhibition Octopus 26: Melange at Gertrude Contemporary. Now in its 26th year, the initiative Octopus platforms new modes of curatorial practice and exhibition-making methodologies. Octopus 26: Melange is developed by curator Krisna Sudharma, a contemporary art historian and writer, and director of Nonfrasa Gallery in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. The Octopus series of exhibitions has been supported by Proclaim since 2002.

In addition, Sangeeta Sandrasegar’s watercolour and paper cut-out works feature in the exhibition The Mordant Family Gift: Newcastle Art Gallery Collection, opening in May.

The exhibitions celebrates a major recent gift to Newcastle Art Gallery from the Mordant Family Collection.

Julie Dowling: ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

The exhibition Nyini Woka (My Place) at Shepparton Art Museum brings together artworks from the Carrillo and Ziyin Gantner Indigenous Art Collection and recent works by contemporary Yorta Yorta artists. Spanning an array of creative practices and stories from across the vast continent, Nyini Woka (My Place) includes work by Julie Dowling, exploring what it means to be here, today, on Yorta Yorta Country and beyond.

In addition, a monoprint by Julie Dowling features in the upcoming exhibition MOTHER at the National Gallery of Victoria. Traversing geographies, cultures and mediums, MOTHER presents diverse stories drawn from across the NGV Collection.

Drawing from the University of Melbourne’s Classics, Biology, and Art collections, alongside new commissions and performances; historic and contemporary art are presented in the exhibition A velvet ant, a flower and a bird at Potter Museum of Art. Helen Maudsley‘s work features in the exhibition, guest curated by Professor Dr Chus Martínez, Head of the Institute of Art Gender Nature at the FHNW Academy of Arts and Design, Basel, Switzerland.

BAYSIDE ART GALLERY: Clarice Beckett

The exhibition Clarice Beckett: Paintings from the National Collection at Bayside Gallery includes rarely seen paintings by one of the most original artists of early twentieth century Australia. A group of paintings donated to the National Gallery of Australia in 1972 by the artist’s sister Hilda Mangan have recently been restored and will be on view in the exhibition at Bayside Gallery for the first time. Clarice Beckett: Paintings from the National Collection is a National Gallery Touring Exhibition supported by The Australian Government through Visions of Australia.
